Supporting Kirkwood Hospice during the pandemic
The outbreak of the pandemic has hit charities hard, with many being unable to deliver their vital services or fundraise for much needed funds to support themselves.
For Kirkwood Hospice, the outbreak of coronavirus has meant that many hospice services had to be adapted in order to meet the needs of patients, families and carers. Despite the challenges Covid-19 is creating for the hospice, Kirkwood community nurses are stepping up and doing what they can to care for some of the most vulnerable patients across Kirklees.
At Minster we are committed to supporting fantastic charities that provide important services to our community. To show our support we’ve donated £2,000 to Kirkwood Hospice which will go towards equipment and technology for nurses and support them with their day to day work.
The donation to provide two of the community nursing team (CNS) laptops means they can continue to reach the most vulnerable people through this Covid period across Kirklees.
In excess of 54% of appointments are now being done on average by the team, via video conference call, which is only possible due to the technology now available.
The CNS team have a current case load of 165 patients who are being provided with specialist nursing care within their own homes together with around 70 patients living in elderly care homes across Kirklees, all of whom have a life limiting illness diagnosis.

“Due to the current pandemic, the amount of community/video consultations the hospice carries out has massively increased, so it is amazing to be able to support the purchase of laptops and technology equipment for the Community Nursing Team.”
“We hope that this donation will allow them to carry out the great work that they do and help more and more people within the community that need it.”
