Supporting local causes that are dedicated to improving the lives of others is important to everyone at Minster Law, which is why we’re proud to be able to pledge our support to the Theatre Royal Wakefield for its Passport to Theatre programme.

The Theatre Royal Wakefield attracts more than 78,000 people to its numerous productions including drama, music, dance and comedy each year. However, the theatre also plays a proactive role in engaging the local community by hosting visits from local schools and staging relaxed performances (specially adapted performances to support the needs of young people with additional needs and disabilities).

The theatre’s Passport to Theatre programme also provides arts engagement activities for a range of Wakefield residents, including those at risk of social isolation, the recently bereaved and adults working towards mental healthiness. Each Passport to Theatre event for a group of 40 costs around £1,000 and the theatre is aiming to hold up to eight of these events in 2018.

With our support, including a £3,000 donation, the theatre was recently able to welcome more than 70 participants from local groups such as Sunshine and Showers, Horbury Senior Citizens Support Group, Wakefield City of Sanctuary and Rycroft Youth Centre through the Passport to Theatre programme to enjoy the annual festive pantomime.

Speaking on behalf of the Wakefield City of Sanctuary, the Group Leader said: “It was wonderful for the children; I might say even life changing for those who have never been in an English theatre.”

Gavin Leonard, Engagement and Partnerships Officer at Theatre Royal Wakefield added: “On behalf of the theatre and the participants, I’d just like to say a massive thank you to Minster Law for their continued support of the programme. Their sponsorship means we’re able to provide an ongoing range of activities such as supported theatre visits, post-show talks and introductory drama workshops, to those who seek additional support in the community.”

Amanda Parkinson, Chair of the Minster Law Make a Difference committee said: “We’re delighted to be able to support Theatre Royal Wakefield with their Passport to Theatre Programme.  Being able to support the local arts and engage with people in our communities is really important to us here at Minster Law.  When we heard about the great work the theatre did with Passport to Theatre, we were keen to get involved and being able to hear about the impact this has had is fantastic.”
