My Minster Journey – Clare Gray

At Minster Law, every journey matters. In this series, colleagues from across the business share their stories, revealing the paths they took, the challenges they overcame, and why they chose Minster Law as the place to build their careers.
Here, Clare Gray, Senior Associate Solicitor in our Serious Injury Team, talks about her return to work at Minster Law, manageable caseloads, promotion and company values.
Why I chose Minster Law
“I re-joined Minster Law in July 2022 as a Grade A Associate Solicitor with a clear ambition to develop my skills to deal with catastrophic injury cases. I was given the opportunity to be an Assistant Fee Earner on cases involving traumatic brain injury and spinal cord injuries.
“I’d worked at the firm previously between 2015-2017 and kept in touch with people who still worked here. When I returned, it was clear that the Serious Injury Team had grown significantly with new partnerships established and a broader portfolio of high quality work. The quality of the work had always been good, but there was now an even greater volume of complex, rewarding work.
“I was also drawn by Minster’s sensible approach to flexible working, which supported both professional development and personal wellbeing.”
My experience
“I have had excellent opportunities to progress here and was thrilled to be promoted to a Senior Associate Solicitor in 2026. I’ve had great team leaders who have supported me but let me get on with the work. There is always someone to ask at Minster and people are friendly.
“Being recognised for my efforts made me feel incredibly valued and supported. The congratulations from my colleagues were also really appreciated.”
My role and responsibilities
“We work in teams of three people, a lead fee earner, assistant and paralegal who is just dedicated to one team. As the lead fee earner, I delegate work to the rest of the team, which means that the right person is dealing with the right piece of work. Everyone is in invested in the cases and takes responsibility for their work. In my experience, that doesn’t happen at every law firm.
“We are all given interesting and rewarding cases. People often have the misconception that we have big caseloads in the Serious Injury Team but that’s not true here. Our small caseloads mean we have enough time to get the best outcome for each client. Being able to see a client face to face helps build the relationship.”
The Minster way
“I’m impressed by Minster’s support of charities and corporate volunteering. Sometimes the phrase social responsibility feels like a buzz word, but I think Minster lives that value.
“I volunteered at FareShare, a network of charitable food redistributors, and seeing the van that Minster sponsored made me particularly proud. The firm also matches the funds raised by any colleagues for charity.”
Advice for others
“I would advise anyone thinking about a job here to apply. The work is interesting and rewarding. You have autonomy to deal with your cases but also the support of an experienced team leader and colleagues.
“Minster offers flexibility and opportunities to progress. I have developed my expertise with the support of great managers and colleagues who have sometimes had to push me out of my comfort zone. Their support means a great deal and shows how committed Minster is to personal development.”
