The Wonder Years

Over two and a half years on from sharing my early experiences at Minster Law, I’ve taken the opportunity to look back on how far both the firm and I have come. It’s been a period of significant growth, meaningful change, and personal milestones – making now the perfect moment to reflect on the journey and what lies ahead.
I am now one of four Partners within Minster Law and was promoted to a Partner role in September 2023 along with three other colleagues all of whom deal with the catastrophic injury claims. We have also had four colleagues promoted to Senior Associate to date, with undoubtedly more to follow.
My caseload and team have also grown and developed. I now deal with severe multiple injury and amputation claims for clients who have been involved in motorcycle accidents. My team has grown, and I now work alongside two Assistant Fee Earners and a Paralegal. I currently run a caseload of seven claims, five of which are amputation claims and two multiple injury claims.
Over the past two years, I have settled five claims all with a value in excess of £2,000,000 and am hoping within the next year a further three claims will settle at Joint Settlement Meetings.
Minster Law reported continued growth over the past year and has seen notable growth in its serious injury capability, supported by an increase in colleagues dedicated to this area and a rising volume of complex cases.
The Serious Injury team has grown enormously (by over 25%!) from the time when I was the 20th Associate in the team to a team with 60 Associates, with more being needed.
We are actively seeking 20 more Associates (and others to support them) to work within our Serious Injury team. Our London hub has opened, meaning we can be closer to our seriously injured clients in the South of England. Minster Law is now truly a law firm with a nationwide footprint, with significant long-term contracts and plenty of good quality, high-value work.
I suppose the question to be answered is: why do I enjoy working at Minster Law?
The answer is that it is a combination of things.
Minster Law’s work is of excellent quality and there is plenty of it. The leadership team within Serious Injury (and beyond) understand the working practices: they understand that claims for seriously injured clients take time to progress and complete and we are trusted to do the best we can for our clients. Minster Law’s ethos is to put the clients at the heart of the claim and our purpose is to create outcomes that matter. It’s something I am passionate about and have done my whole working career. I work almost entirely remotely (as do many of my colleagues) and rarely need to travel to the head office in Wakefield. With our nationwide growth, it is expected that Minster Law’s target to reach all clients within two hours travel is achievable. We employ many solicitors and lawyers throughout the country now, and our expansion will further service our clients countrywide.
I am also coaching and mentoring some colleagues, something I value highly as, after 40 years of dealing with personal injury claims, I have built up a wealth of knowledge, and I would like to pass that knowledge on to others. I will shortly be embarking on a further role to coach and mentor more of the Associates within the Serious Injury team to pass on that knowledge to more of my colleagues.
I have always had a strong work ethic and always try to do the very best I can for my clients who, through no fault of their own, have suffered life-changing injuries that will affect them and their families for the remainder of their lives. Obtaining the right rehabilitation, treatment, giving them support and explaining the claims process, getting them to see the right experts at the right times, and ultimately getting them the right amount of compensation to support them for the remainder of their lives, means they have one less worry for the future. I value this enormously and get a huge amount of satisfaction from achieving this.
You also meet people and their families at a very low ebb initially and to see the growth and positivity that can be achieved with the right rehabilitation and compensation payment is extremely rewarding. In July 2025, I climbed Snowdon with one of my amputation clients, Mick Lammond – a great achievement for him (not without a lot of pain), raising about £1,700 for Steel Bones, an amputation charity, in the process. I value activities like this enormously and seeing Mick’s exhilaration on summitting Snowdon was a great feeling.
Minster Law’s own values mirror my own: putting the client at the heart of the process, supporting them and representing them to the very best of our abilities. I always think that Minster Law aligns with my own beliefs and as a result, working within the Minster Law family is highly rewarding.
I have no doubt that with the right leadership (our CEO was listed in The Lawyer’s Hot 100 in the legal sector this year), which we have, and the right people working within Minster Law, our vision and goals will be met.
If you would like to join this exciting journey and if your own values accord with those above, why not join the Minster Law team?
