Minster Law match fund for Creative Minds

Improving lives in the local community is important to Minster Law. Throughout summer 2018, Minster Law has sponsored Theatre Royal Wakefield’s ‘Passport to Theatre’, which has helped provide 120 supported theatre visits for individuals who are, or are at risk of becoming, socially isolated.

Individuals taking part in Passport to Theatre include members of support groups for senior citizens, adults with depression and anxiety, refugees and asylum seekers, and young people attending a youth group in a highly deprived area. The groups receive a special invitation to visit the theatre for a show, with a warm welcome and additional support from the theatre’s staff, pre-show refreshments and a post-show talk with cast and creative team members, such as Theatre Royal Wakefield Creative Director, John Godber.

In July 2018, Theatre Royal Wakefield were awarded a grant from Creative Minds, which we at Minster Law match funded to secure the rest of the project funding. The new project will be based at Fieldhead Hospital and will provide 20 hours of drama skills workshops for adults with learning difficulties and mental health service users. The workshops will encourage communication skills, develop trust and self-confidence, and provide meaningful physical activity to support the recovery of service users. The project will also provide an additional 150 ‘Passport to Theatre’ tickets to support mental health service users, with a focus on supporting senior inpatients.
