Owen Welsh

Serious Injury Associate
Background

I began my career at a Top 100 Defendant law firm in 2004 and by 2016 had been promoted to Associate Partner. In 2022, I moved in-house to an insurer client as a Partner, setting up their personal injury department and managing a team of 6 lawyers. I joined Minster Law’s Serious Injury Team in February 2024, handling cases valued up to £1million. I’ve acted for both Defendants and Claimants across a variety of areas, including road traffic claims, employer’s liability, public liability matters, along with general civil litigation cases. With 20+ years litigation experience, running cases with values up to £2million, I have expertise in road traffic claims, highways cases, fatalities and claims involving brain injury, chronic pain and serious orthopaedic injuries.

What are you most passionate about in your job?

I’m passionate about achieving justice for my clients. My extensive experience and technical expertise ensure I can successfully navigate the legal landscape for my clients, and translate complex legal concepts into simple terms. Having a Defendant background, gives me a unique insight into the tactics our opponents will use, thereby ensuring that my clients receive expert legal and practical advice, and together we can achieve the best possible results. Initially, my primary focus will be to disentangle the legal issues so that a clear view of liability can be achieved, increasing the chances of an early admission. Establishing liability at an early stage, especially in serious injury cases, is essential in ensuring that my clients receive the immediate support they so urgently require, through interim financial relief but also rehabilitation. Both my knowledge of the law and my extensive network of experts and barristers, enables me to secure the most advantageous settlements my clients can achieve.

What are your personal interests outside of work?

I enjoy spending time with my two young children, DIY, the great outdoors and going to the gym. Sadly, my body can no longer cope the rigours of playing football, but I remain passionate about my local team.
