lid-onBikers never usually need an excuse to ride, but just in case you do, there’s a great reason to get your helmet on this 13 May. #Helmets4Headway is encouraging all UK riders to get their bikes out and helmets on to help generate vital funds for Headway, the UK’s leading head injury charity – and it couldn’t be more easy to get involved.

, get your lid on and go. Whether it’s the daily commute, an impromptu ride-out to your local bike meet or dealer or just a blast with friends, it’s easy to support and the money raised could make a huge difference to other bikers and people affected by head and brain injuries.

We all know the importance of wearing a helmet when riding, but many bikers won’t realise that up to 400,000 riders could be wearing headgear that is unfit for purpose*. When you consider that helmets can help to reduce the incidence of head injury in biking accidents by up to 69%**, a helmet should be the last bit of kit that is taken for granted.

The campaign, which is spearheaded by Minster Law, has already attracted support from a number of motorcycle racing stars, including former World Champion Neil Hodgson and Moto2 championship leader Sam Lowes. The personal injury solicitors currently handle one in five UK motorcycle claims and have supported more than 23,000 riders who have been injured in road traffic incidents over the past ten years, many of which involved head injuries. The company hopes #Helmets4Headway will raise £10,000 for the cause.

Biker and Minster Law Managing Director, Michael Warren, said: “As a company with many motorcyclists and motorcycle enthusiasts, including myself, we’re passionate about raising awareness of head injury among the biking community. We’re keen to not only reinforce the importance of wearing helmets while riding, but stress the importance of maintaining the condition of your helmet too.

“We know all too well how a brain injury can affect survivors, families and carers of those impacted by brain injury. We hope that the motorcycle community will back the cause and help raise awareness and vital funds to help Headway promote understanding of all aspects of brain injury.”
