Such a supportive start to working at Minster
We caught up with associate, Amanda Dixon, to find out about her first few months at Minster Law.
I started at Minster in March 2022 as an associate in the serious injury department. Prior to this, I was a partner at Thompsons in Leeds. I had worked there for nearly 20 years and was ready for a change.
After nearly 20 years with another firm, where I’d been a partner, I was ready for a change and was attracted to Minster because of the quality of work it offered and its vision. In a time when many personal injury firms are leaving the market, Minster is actively expanding within it. The culture and ethos of the firm also appealed particularly their CSR initiatives and approach to flexible working.
My first couple of weeks were a blur of training and teams’ meetings, even though I have worked in law for so many years, coming to a new firm, there was still a lot to learn and take on board and I was definitely out of my comfort zone. Thankfully, I had the assistance of an excellent paralegal (Harima) who knew the answer to any problem or query that I had and was unfailingly patient and helpful. Other colleagues have also been happy to help, and I have been told more than once, that “no question is a stupid question”!
In fact, all my colleagues that I have met, either virtually or in the office, have been extremely friendly and welcoming. It has been a challenge getting to know colleagues though, because whilst working from home is great for a work-life balance, it has made starting a new job and getting to know people difficult.
I have now been at Minster for over two months. I am settling in and getting used to the Minster systems and procedures. The quality of work so far has been excellent. My case load means I have been able to fully familiarise myself with my new clients and have been out to visit many of them already. The Peer Review meetings are very informative and full of lively debate. I am looking forward to my volunteering day. It is still very early days in my Minster journey, but I can definitely say that, so far, so good!
