Feeding time for staff at Minster Law!

A team of nine employees from Minster Law’s Business Systems department have been helping to support the volunteers at a popular animal charity based in York. Douglas Calvert, Karen Orton, Rebecca Williams, Jeremy Collins, Simon Gallantree, Anthony Willis, Dee Heap, Howard Child and Steve Free spent the day with Nuzzlets, a small sanctuary that provides homes for unwanted animals and access to young people for therapy and education.

Since its establishment in 2002, Nuzzlets has grown to become home to around 100 animals including pigmy goats, ponies, kittens and rabbits. The charity recognises the calming and therapeutic effects animals can have on humans, and has since begun specialising in hosting visits for children with disabilities, special needs and life threatening illnesses.

As part of the volunteer day, the nine volunteers were set a number of tasks including re-felting the hobbit house, building a rockery, laying a leaf path and trimming the grass and honeysuckle bushes. Adding chicken wire to the wooden sleepers would also ensure children don’t slip when walking across them. Other tasks around the sanctuary included rescuing some baby birds, landscaping the gardens, painting a mural and helping to milk a cow!

Nuzzlets founder Mary said: “I just wanted to thank you all for your help today – it was absolutely brilliant. It was lovely to meet you all and the children will love everything that you have done around the sanctuary!”
