Cybersecurity Awareness Month

It’s been a busy few weeks for me and my team, we’ve been out and about at various events, connecting with peers and vendors, and one thing’s become very clear: we’re all tackling similar cybersecurity challenges.

Cybersecurity continues to be a major concern for all businesses,  and rightly so. As recent high-profile incidents have shown, technology is rarely the weak link. More often, it’s the human factor, someone being socially engineered to give up theirs or a customer’s login details and/or MFA token.

Here at Minster Law, we’re focused on staying ahead of these evolving threats. It’s not always easy and whilst we have strong technical controls and multiple layers of protection , what we in IT like to call Defence in Depth. Its becoming more and more clear technology alone isn’t enough.

That’s why we’re putting people at the centre of our approach:

  • We’re joining team meetings and holding pop-up talks to discuss everyday cyber awareness.
  • We’re refreshing campaigns, simulations, and e-learning content to keep it relevant.
  • We’re even introducing gamification and incentives to encourage early reporting.
  • And we’re reinforcing the basics  – checking links, verifying attachments, and speaking up immediately if something doesn’t look right.

We’ve always believed in the “carrot” approach: no blame, just action. Reporting quickly,  even if you’ve clicked a suspicious link, can make all the difference.

Cybersecurity isn’t static; it’s a constant evolution. The tactics that worked last year might not work today. As attackers become more sophisticated, so must we, thinking differently, adapting faster, and keeping collaboration and awareness at the heart of our defence.
