£500,000 Achieved for Client After Road Traffic Accident with Comprehensive Rehabilitation Support

In 2021, John*’s life is changed forever, after he was involved in a road traffic accident. On the day of the accident, John was on his way to work, riding his motorbike and was travelling behind a van.  The van in front of him turned left at a junction and the Defendant pulled out from the junction as the van was turning and collided with John.

As a result of the collision, John sustained significant injuries to include, open fracture of the left tibia, compartment syndrome which required emergency fasciotomy surgery (this is a surgical procedure to relieve pressure and restore blood flow) as well as psychological injury.

John had numerous surgeries and remained in hospital for several weeks.

We understand the physical wounds were only part of the story; the psychological impact of the trauma ran deep, therefore we quickly instructed a dedicated Case Manager to support John and ensure he received the holistic support he needed. A multidisciplinary team was quickly put in place to aid John’s rehabilitation to include an Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapist and Psychologist.  An interim payment was sought so John did not need to worry about his finances whilst he was absent from work recovering from his injuries.

John also had the benefit of being seen privately in relation to orthotics.

Prior to the accident, John was very active; he enjoyed going out on his bike, going on hikes and other outdoor pursuits. It was one of John’s goals to get back to doing some of the pursuits that he enjoyed doing prior to the accident.

John eventually returned to work on a part time basis as he was unable to manage his pre-accident full time position due to the injuries he sustained. John received interim payments to cover the ‘shortfall’ in his income throughout the entirety of his case, offering him security and stability as he adjusted to his new reality.

Evidence from several leading experts including a consultant orthopaedic surgeon, plastic surgeon, psychiatrist, orthotic and prosthetics were obtained.

Shortly after the three-year anniversary of his accident, we successfully negotiated a settlement in the sum of £500,000.00 in compensation for John, providing him with vital financial support as he continues his recovery and rebuilds his life.
