We believe in investing in our people
We pride ourselves on providing a positive, supportive working environment with a structured programme of development opportunities, to give all our people the chance to grow and shine.
Support in your role
When you work with us, you’ll enjoy ongoing support to help you develop in your role. Click on each button to find out more about the support we offer our employees…
You’ll have a one-to-one meeting with your line manager on a regular basis, to discuss how you’re doing and receive feedback on your performance against your goals and objectives. It’s a time for you to share examples of what you think are going well and what you think could be going better, and agree a focus for the month ahead. These discussions will help you know if you are meeting your expectations and if there’s anything you need to do differently.
Your one-to-one isn’t just about performance though. It’s your chance to talk about anything else to do with your role and career – a platform to discuss your ambitions and how we can help you achieve them.
When you join Minster Law, you’ll spend a day learning about our business – we call this ‘Your welcome to Minster Law’. If you’re joining Legal Services or our First Response Unit, we run an intensive training programme which follows on from the Welcome Day. Our ‘inductions’ last up to three weeks and make sure you have the skills, knowledge and experience to do your job properly. For our support or more specialist roles, you can expect a bespoke induction in conjunction with your line manager and Learning & Development team.
At Minster Law, we subscribe to various legal and professional libraries and resources to make sure you have the tools you need to deliver the best service for our clients.
A webinar is a short training session delivered over the internet. We regularly screen webinars on our key areas of law to keep our people up-to-date with the latest developments.
We deliver regular technical training on key areas of the law to ensure that all our legal assistants and fee earners have the knowledge, skills and experience to deliver excellent results.
The coaches, team leaders and managers within our legal services teams and across the business support our staff in their day-to-day role by providing guidance, feedback and support.
Our online resource can be accessed by all employees and enables them to keep abreast of all the latest developments in personal injury. We also arrange regular specialist training sessions that are delivered in-house by leading experts in the field, including council chambers and ex-policemen, for example.
In order to continue to develop in your career, whatever your role, we provide ongoing development opportunities. This could be training sessions, e-learning or coaching.
We provide opportunities to develop your skills through various training programmes. We have practical programmes in place, focusing on key elements of people management, and courses which provide insight into you as an individual, people and the business.
Case clinics give fee earners the opportunity to work with others to resolve a specific issue on a case. This provides a valuable support network and ensures skills and experiences are shared.
Developing our fee earners
Minster Law has a structured development programme to help develop fee earners of the future. Extensive training, coaching and support are provided in-house to equip them with the technical, case management and client care skills they need.
Career paths through our business – Your Journey
Your Journey is Minster Law’s innovative internal system designed to support employees in their self-development. This could be within their existing roles, or to give them the opportunity to consider different pathways for their career. This is an area that brings together:
- job role
- development plans
- competency requirements
- access to training courses
- support within the business – our training committee members or subject matter experts.
You Journey enables employees to see their own development needs to succeed in their current role while building a personalised development plan towards other positions within Minster Law.
We could sponsor you in your studies
If you’re looking to achieve professional qualifications, we also offer study sponsorship.
Minster Law has a dedicated CILEx Academy for employees wishing to obtain the CILEx qualification while they work with us. This study is fully funded and delivered in-house in partnership with CILEx Law School and a CILEx distance learning provider.
Our investment in employee development was acknowledged in 2012 when our CILEx Academy was recognised as a ‘model of excellence’ at the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives’ (CILEx) annual award ceremony and we were named CILEx Employer of the Year. The judges said this:
Minster Law’s CILEx Academy is a model of excellence and they clearly value the development of their employees. We were particularly impressed with how integral the support of CILEx members was to their business objectives. The exceptionally strong endorsement of staff for Minster Law’s support of their CILEx studies was particularly striking.”
