Minster Law heads to the race track
Supporting motorcyclists after an accident is at the heart Minster Law’s biking team, which is why five of our employees recently spent the day volunteering with an important biking charity. Craig Croft-Rayner, Tom Beech, Neil Hollingworth, Shairoz Ahmed and Shaun Walker recently joined The Bike Experience at the famous Silverstone racetrack in Northampton to help a number of less able-bodied riders get back on to two wheels.
Talan Skeels-Piggins was inspired to establish The Bike Experience in April 2011, after he was involved in a motorcycle accident that left him paralysed eight years earlier. The charity caters for riders of all disabilities including paraplegics, vision impaired, amputees and those with acquired brain injury, and has now helped more than 250 motorcyclists learn how to ride again.
At the event in June, the Minster Law volunteers helped support five participants who all had a range of disabilities including brachial plexus injuries, sight loss and paralysis. The team helped them with their protective gear and held the bikes up while they focussed on getting to grips with the controls.
As The Bike Experience is a free-to-participate event, the charity relies on the help of volunteers. All money raised by fundraising goes towards getting riders back on a motorcycle, whether that’s paying venue costs, bike maintenance and repairs, fuel or tyres.
Craig Croft-Raynor said: “What a fantastic day! It was great to see just how all the participants grew in confidence throughout the session – some of them, I suspect, never imagined they would be able to get back on a bike again but The Bike Experience has made this possible. I would definitely recommend this charity to any motorcyclists who have been injured in an accident. And, for those who ride a motorcycle for fun, it’s great to know that there may still be an opportunity to enjoy their hobby, even after a severe accident.”
