Support for St Catherine’s Church and Centre

Being able to support the local community is important to everyone at Minster Law, which is why volunteering days, charity support initiatives and fundraising is actively encouraged throughout the company. Minster Law’s in-house Make a Difference team works with a number of registered charities and groups that help to improve the lives of others in the local community, including St Catherine’s Church and Centre in Wakefield.

Last December, a team from Minster Law undertook a volunteering day at the centre, which runs a daily drop-in service providing hot soup and bread rolls, tea and coffee to the city’s most vulnerable people. Many of Wakefield’s underprivileged residents rely on St Catherine’s for regular food aid – in the last six months, the centre has provided more than 40,000 meals to 720 different households and homeless people through their emergency food provision project.

Following the team’s volunteering day, Minster Law was proud to have been able to make a donation of more than £2,300 to the church in order to fund their daily soup kitchen service for a whole year.  The centre also provides training courses that aim to help homeless people gain stability and the skills they need to rebuild their lives, and Minster Law are keen to support this crucial provision as part of the ongoing relationship with St Catherine’s.

Lisa Grant, Centre Manager of St Catherine’s Church said: “We’re so grateful for this support. It will make such a massive difference to people in need. Thank you to everyone at Minster Law.”

Chair of the Make a Difference committee, Amanda Parkinson, said: “It’s really clear to see how St Catherine’s can make a huge difference to people’s lives in the community. We are delighted to be working with them and are really interested to see how we can support the workshops they provide for homeless people around life skills.”
