Compulsory Insurance to Fund Nursing Care

Jul 21, 2010 Comments Off by Simon Eyre-Wood

It has been reported in the national press of the Coalition Government’s plans to look at compulsory insurance to fund nursing care.

Pensioners would be expected to pay £20,000 on retirement or on death to guarantee their nursing care. In theory such a scheme would potentially mean thousands could have to sell their homes to meet such costs.

Furthermore those families who care for their own family would be hit twice as hard as once the loved one passes away this tax would then make the deceased’s estate pay the state for care which they never received.

This policy would seem to be viewed by many as unfair and has been labelled a death tax by some.
